Valtteri Bottas believes that Ferrari still has the "top" in the engine department despite the fact that Mercedes brings its Spec-2 engine to Montreal.
The first Mercedes engine of the 2019 season allowed them to win in all six races, with four wins for Lewis Hamilton and two for Valtteri Bottas.
And now, as expected in the seventh race, Mercedes has put its Spec-2 power unit at the disposal of all teams equipped with Mercedes engines from the start.
But Bottas thinks that Ferrari is still a reference in terms of speed in a straight line.
"There is no doubt that the engine upgrade is welcome," Bottas told Motorsport Week.
"It's thanks to all the work done at Brixworth.
"It's obviously something we need to physically see how it really behaves and everything else. We must also make sure it is reliable.
"We are already expecting a power boost from a new engine, but we are waiting for a small step forward. We do not think it's enough to match Ferrari's straight-line speed.
"They will have the advantage, but we have our strengths in other areas. I can not wait to feel it on Friday.
Hamilton said the new PU had arrived at the "perfect time" and Bottas was in agreement with his teammate.
He added, "I think it happens at the right time because the first engine is at the end of life, so we will need a new one."
"But it's nice to have the upgrade here, certainly, for example compared to Monaco. The engine has a lot more value here, so it's a good timing for that. As I said earlier, we need to see how it feels and works, and how it will benefit from the old. "
