CHICAGO (WLS) – A meteor crossed Chicago on Friday night and several people captured the moment in front of the camera.

A resident of the northern suburb of Riverwoods caught a fireball on his Nest Doorbell camera, but he did not even understand it before people started talking about the meteor on Twitter.

The meteor seems to have fallen on Chicago.

In the western suburbs, the Woodridge police sergeant also captured the meteor on a camera.

The police service shared this video on his Facebook page.

Meteorites are small particles of sand and gravel, according to Mark McGinnis, a meteorologist at ABC 7 in Chicago.

McGinnis says that when he comes out of space in the upper part of the atmosphere, he creates friction and turns it on.

"That's what you see, it's the light that's produced and that's happening all the time," said McGinnis. "It's just that during the day, obviously, we do not see it, unless it's a lot more meaningful."
