A commercial shipment of frozen strawberries from Mexico contained $ 12.7 million worth of methamphetamine, the US Department of Customs and Border Protection said Tuesday.

The alleged drug smuggling operation was discovered Feb. 16 at the loading facility of the Pharr-Reynosa International Bridge in South Texas, according to a statement. Officers found 906 pounds of drugs hidden in a trailer, says CBP.

A 42-year-old Mexican citizen was arrested in connection with the seizure, the statement said.

An analysis of data from the southern border indicates that the vast majority of narcotics enter through US ports of entry.

According to US Customs and Border Protection statistics, 87% of methamphetamine seized along the border during the first 11 months of fiscal 2018 was apprehended while it was attempted to smuggle to legal crossing points.
