SAINT ANTHONY – The San Antonio Metropolitan Health District has started making appointments for the second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Patients who received the first dose of the vaccine at noon Wednesday at the Alamodome are eligible, according to a press release.

Previously, people who were already vaccinated had to register online a week before their second dose deadline, but this is no longer the case, officials said.

Patients will receive a phone call from Metro Health to schedule their second dose. If someone missed the call and wants to schedule, they can call 311 and select option 8 or send an email to [email protected].

Currently, only frontline healthcare workers and residents of long-term care facilities (referred to as phase 1A) as well as those over 65 or with a chronic illness that puts them at risk increased risk of serious illness due to COVID-19 (referred to as phase 1B) are currently eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Recipients of phase 1B include:

  • People 65 and over
  • People aged 16 and over with at least one chronic illness that puts them at increased risk of serious illness from the virus that causes COVID-19, such as, but not limited to:
  • Cancer
  • Chronic kidney disease
  • COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease)
  • Heart disease, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies
  • Solid organ transplantation
  • Obesity and severe obesity (body mass index of 30 kg / m2 or more)
  • Pregnancy
  • Sickle cell anemia
  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus

As Bexar County continues to receive more vaccines, other appointments will open. Residents are advised to check daily to see if appointments are available on the city’s website or by calling 311 and selecting option 8.

The opening hours of the Alamodome vaccination clinic are currently 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. Monday to Saturday.
