Mets name Jerad Eickhoff for assignment

The Mets have announced they have nominated the right-hander Jerad eickhoff for assignment. The move creates list space for the right-handed person Robert Stock, who was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse to start tonight’s game against the Reds.

This is the second time this season that New York has nominated Eickhoff. The veteran starter was selected from the major league roster last month, re-signed with the organization after going through waivers, and was brought back to the majors again two weeks ago. Between his two stints, Eickhoff threw 16 1/3 of a 4.96 ERA / 5.71 SIERA ball. He threw at a brisk pace, but Eickhoff didn’t miss a lot of bats and he was scored for six homers in his limited work.

The Mets will have a week to trade Eickhoff or expose him to waivers. If he accepts outright waivers – as he did in June – he can reject a minor league assignment in favor of free agency.
