Michael J. Denecke

IRON RIVER -i Michael J. Denecke, 61, of Iron River, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2021 in the arms of his loving wife after a long and courageous battle with cancer.

He was born December 11, 1959 in Chicago, the son of the late William and Dorothy (Young) Denecke. Michael attended Round Lake schools and graduated from Round Lake High School with the class of 1978.

Michael married Claire Noonan on June 15, 1996 in McHenry, Illinois. The couple celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary this year.

He worked in maintenance and as a warden in the Dickinson-Iron District Health Department before being diagnosed with cancer. Michael was a member of the McHenry United Methodist Church and the Pipefitters Union. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding his motorcycles and playing on his tractor.

Michael is survived by his wife, Claire of Gaastra, Michigan; sons Michael (Nefertiti) Braden of Arizona, Matthew (Jennifer) Denecke of Elkhorn, Wisconsin, and Daniel (Briggs) Fenwick-Perry of New York; daughters Jenevieve (Daniel Truque) Perry of New York and Sherrice Perry of Illinois; brothers William Denecke of Wisconsin and Robert Denecke of Indiana; Sister Lori (John) Ridgeway of Gurnee, Ill .; grandchildren Keeli and Valentina Cristan, Elijah and Lukas Braden, Kinsley and Haelyn Denecke; nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

He was also predeceased by his brothers, James and Steven Denecke; and her granddaughter Naomi Aqua Braden.

Visitations will be held on Wednesday, September 15, 2021 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Jacobs Inc. Funeral Home in Iron River.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 17, 2021 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Justen Funeral Home in McHenry, Illinois.

A visit will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at McHenry United Methodist Church. The funeral service will follow at 10:30 am, with Pastor Kurt Gamlin as the officer. Interment will follow at the Ascension Catholic Cemetery and Mausoleum in Libertyville, Illinois.
