A confirmed case of measles was diagnosed in a student at Derby Middle School, a Birmingham public school said in a letter sent to parents Sunday.

According to WXYZ-TV, the school district is working with the Oakland County Health Department regarding the outbreak.

The Michigan law states that all students must be vaccinated against measles, mumps and rubella (MMR).

The case is the latest of a measles outbreak that is spreading in Michigan. As of Friday, there were 39 confirmed cases, which is the largest epidemic on the statewide since 1991. Most cases were in Oakland County.

Among the 39 cases, the age of infected persons ranges from 8 months to 63 years. At least three of the people received two doses of the MMR vaccine, said the state's Department of Health and Human Services.
