DETROIT – The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) in Michigan rose to 896,717 on Tuesday, including 19,832 deaths, state officials report.

Tuesday’s update includes a total of 650 new cases and 31 additional deaths over the past four days – an average of 162.5 cases per day. The state announced a total of 896,067 cases and 19,801 deaths on Friday.

Testing has been stable around 20,000 diagnostic tests reported per day on average, with the 7-day positive rate less than 1.6% Friday, near the lowest on record. Hospitalizations have declined in recent weeks, now near the lowest point since the start of the pandemic.

The state’s 7-day moving average for daily cases was 144 Friday – the lowest since June 2020. The 7-day death average was 8 Friday, the lowest since March. The state’s death rate is 2.2%. The state is also reporting “active cases,” which were listed at 10,000 on Friday.

Michigan reported more than 9 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine given on Wednesday, with 62.4% of residents 16+ having received at least one dose while 54% of residents 16+ are considered fully immunized.
