Michigan reported a total of 2,786 new coronavirus cases over two days – an average of 1,393 per day – and 24 deaths on Tuesday and Wednesday August 10 and 11.
Of the new deaths, 12 were identified during a death certificate review, conducted three times per week, and the number of cases represents new referrals of confirmed cases to the Michigan Disease Surveillance System since the last web update of the Monday August 9.
As of this week, the state is releasing the COVID-19 case and testing the data three days a week, Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. Previously, Michigan updated data twice a week, Tuesdays and Fridays.
The state averages 1,138 new cases and five new deaths a day over the past week, according to the Department of Health and Human Services.
Since the start of the pandemic, there have been 916,006 reported coronavirus cases and 19,982 confirmed deaths. Additionally, the state has reported 108,997 probable cases and 1,270 probable deaths, in which a doctor and / or antigen test found it to be COVID-19, but no confirmatory PCR test, which detects the presence of ‘virus, has been carried out.

Of Michigan’s 83 counties, 76 reported new cases on Tuesday and / or Wednesday. Topping the list was Wayne with 458, followed by Oakland with 439 and Macomb with 235. Other top reporting counties included Kent (197), Kalamazoo (101), Washtenaw (90), Genesee (81), Ottawa (78), Saginaw (72) and Ingham (72).
Thirteen counties have reported at least one death in the same period, led by Wayne with seven, Oakland with three and Macomb, St. Clair and Charlevoix with two apiece.
Below is a color-coded map that shows the percentage of people 12 and older who have received a COVID-19 vaccine in Michigan. As of Tuesday, 59% of the state’s eligible residents had received at least one dose.

As of Wednesday, hospitals statewide were treating 859 patients with confirmed or suspected cases of COVID-19, with 181 patients in intensive care. This is an increase from 752 COVID-19 patients two days ago.
Of the 20,788 diagnostic tests processed on Tuesday, August 10, 6.5% came back positive for SARS-CoV-2. The seven-day average is now 7.0%, down from 6.6% about a week ago.

The seven-day average of deaths in the state remains single-digit, as it has since early July. It was down Wednesday from a six-day, seven-day average on August 3.
