Michigan hosts Penn State in a game only a mother could love at The Big House on Saturday afternoon. Well, Penn State is jealous of Michigan’s two wins because they don’t have one. The Nittany Lions are 0-5. It’s the worst start to the season in the program’s history, and it’s also the first time a team ranked in the top 10 of the AP Top 25 preseason poll has started their season 0-5.
So, yes, things are not going so well for our two traditional powers. Maybe this game will be cathartic for everyone involved.

Michigan: Everyone in college football was talking about Jim Harbaugh’s professional status in Michigan before last week. I don’t think a triple win over Rutgers will be enough to put out these fires. Still, a win is a win, and Michigan really needed it. If there’s any reason for optimism, it’s that in Michigan’s last two games, Cade McNamara replaced Joe Milton at quarterback during the game and provided an offensive spark. Penn State: These final weeks of the season will be the most difficult coaching job James Franklin has had in his career. It’s not just that the team is 0-5. A pandemic that has put a lot of additional pressure on players and stricter guidelines to follow. Keeping his team motivated to play and join will be extremely difficult for Franklin, but at the very least, taking some of the frustration out of Michigan could prove to be a boost for all parties involved. A victory in this game won’t solve anything, but it would be a reason to smile. Finally.
