Microsoft announced its fully managed Azure Blockchain service in a press release issued May 2.
The new blockchain-as-a-service (BaaS) platform will allow users to create blockchain applications on a preconfigured network.
According to Frank Shaw, Corporate Communications Manager at Microsoft, this service "simplifies the training, management, and governance of the consortium's blockchain networks."
Shaw added that Azure Blockchain Service can create a new consortium network "in a few clicks" or let the user perform basic operations, such as adding new members to the network.
Quorum, an open source blockchain platform supported by JPMorgan Chase, is the first platform that can be managed through the Azure Blockchain service. Azure CTO Mark Russinovich explained the choice:
"Quorum is a natural choice because it is based on the popular Ethereum protocol, which brings together the largest blockchain developer community in the world.
Microsoft Azure released Azure Blockchain Workbench, its blockchain application creation service, in May 2018. This platform was also designed to automate some aspects of blockchain-related work, in this case streamlining the development of the blockchain. Blockchain applications by providing the developer with an immediately available infrastructure.
In October 2018, Microsoft Azure is associated with Nasdaq. Nasdaq has chosen to incorporate Azure blockchain technology into its financial framework in hopes of speeding up transactions.
On April 30, Amazon Web Services, the wing of cloud computing giant Amazon's retail, has released its own BaaS platform, dubbed Amazon Managed Blockchain.
