Microsoft releases new details about Windows Update crash

[ad_1]

Windows Update was decommissioned at the end of January due to a DNS problem experienced by multiple Internet service providers. Customers in several regions, including the United States and the United Kingdom, could no longer update their devices.

In February, Microsoft explained that it was working with partners to resolve the problem and asked users to contact their ISP to erase their DNS records.

"A software update on the external provider's DNS servers resulted in the distribution of corrupt DNS records that affected connectivity to the Windows Update service," Microsoft said at the time.

In a March 8 update, the company returns users to KB4493784, a new KB article containing information about how to resolve the Windows Update issue.

"If you still can not connect to Windows Update Services because of this problem, contact your Internet Service Provider or your local network administrator and return them to this knowledge base, which will help them resolve the DNS problem for you." you, "says Microsoft.

Patch Tuesday just around the corner

In short, the software giant explains how to determine if the network is affected by the DNS corruption bug, and then offers to help it flush the DNS records to restore Windows Update. Microsoft states that the host names of the Windows Update service to use are:

sls.update.microsoft.com
fe2.update.microsoft.com
fe3.delivery.mp.microsoft.com
au.download.windowsupdate.com
sls.update.microsoft.com.nsatc.net
fe2.update.microsoft.com.nsatc.net
fe3.delivery.dsp.mp.microsoft.com.nsatc.net
audownload.windowsupdate.nsatc.net

Microsoft explains that the problem of Windows Update has already been resolved, but several user reports written on Reddit and other technical forums explain that the update of their devices still does not work.

This is undoubtedly the reason why Microsoft has also released new instructions on this bug, although at this point it is difficult to estimate how many users might still have trouble updating their devices. With the upcoming release of a new hotfix on Tuesday, it is essential that everyone can install the Windows Update service as quickly as possible.
