Microsoft Teams is undergoing a big change, with the popular web conferencing service set to stop working on Internet Explorer 11. On Monday, November 30, the web version of Microsoft Teams will stop working with IE11, so if you’re a fan of it. ‘Internet Explorer you’ll need to upgrade to Microsoft Edge to use Teams in a browser. The makers of Windows 10 announced this big change to Microsoft Teams earlier this year, and it appears to be part of an initiative to move users from Internet Explorer 11 to Edge.
Besides the loss of Microsoft Teams support by IE11 at the end of November, the veteran browser will no longer be able to access Microsoft 365 services in the future.
On August 17, 2021, the remaining Microsoft 365 services will stop working with Internet Explorer 11.
Although it comes just a few months after the Legacy version of Microsoft Edge reached end of support on March 9, 2021.
The changes were announced over the summer in a Microsoft blog post in which the Redmond-based tech giant said it “wanted to be clear that IE 11 isn’t going away.”

However, the mileage you’ll get from Internet Explorer 11 is drastically reduced, and with Legacy Edge reaching its end of support, it’s clear that the Chrome version of Edge is the basket Microsoft is putting all its eggs in.
Reporting the news previously, Microsoft said, “We are announcing that Microsoft 365 applications and services will no longer support Internet Explorer 11 (IE 11) around the same time next year.
“As of November 30, 2020, the Microsoft Teams web app will no longer support IE 11.
“As of August 17, 2021, other Microsoft 365 applications and services will no longer support IE 11.
“This means that after the above dates, customers will either have a degraded experience or will not be able to sign in to Microsoft 365 apps and services on IE 11. For degraded experiences, new or some Microsoft 365 features will not be available. features might stop working when accessing the app or service through IE 11. While we know this change will be difficult for some customers, we believe customers will get the most out of Microsoft 365 by using the new Microsoft Edge. We are committed to making this transition as smooth as possible. “
Internet Explorer has long been a staple of the Windows experience, with the first iteration of the browser launching in 1995.
However, as Control Panel and Paint have shown, Microsoft isn’t afraid to decide to make huge changes to features or long-lived software that customers know and love.
Besides this major Teams change, there is another big difference that Internet Explorer 11 users will notice this month.
Some of the world’s most popular websites no longer open in Internet Explorer 11, with users being redirected to Microsoft Edge version 87.
This change came into effect recently and affects extremely popular websites such as YouTube, Instagram and Twitter.
But that only scratches the surface, with Express.co.uk previously reporting that over 1,000 websites will stop working in IE11.
When IE11 users attempt to access a blocked website, they will be redirected to Edge and see this message appear: “You are now browsing Microsoft Edge.
“This website does not work with Internet Explorer. Microsoft recommends continuing in Microsoft Edge for increased speed, performance, and security.”
For those still struggling to say goodbye to the veteran and popular browser, Microsoft will allow users to enable “Internet Explorer mode” in Edge.
If this is all part of an effort to try and move users to the Chromium-powered version of Microsoft Edge, it is producing the desired effect.
Statistics from NetMarketShare show that since the start of the year, Edge has grown its market share by more than two percent and managed to overtake Mozilla’s Firefox and become the second most popular web browser in the world.
And with more and more cool features added to Edge, such as vertical tabs and autofill for discount coupons on online retail stores, which Edge won’t slowly but surely continue to close the gap on Google Chrome in 2021.
