YouTube star Jake Paul quickly worked on former NBA guard Nate Robinson in the boxing ring on Saturday night, and now other athletes are lining up to be Paul’s next challenger. San Jose Sharks forward Evander Kane is among those who want a piece of Paul.
Shortly after Paul knocked out Robinson as part of Saturday’s sub-card for the Mike Tyson-Roy Jones Jr. pay-per-view, Kane pitched the idea of stepping into the ring next.
It looks like he slept on the idea, then decided to officially launch his challenge on Sunday afternoon.
Kane is no slouch when it comes to throwing hands. Not only is he named after boxing legend Evander Holyfield, but he also demonstrated many fighting skills during his hockey career. (Sufficient for earn a shout from Holyfield himself.) According to HockeyFights.com, Kane has 21 regular season fights under his belt in 11 seasons in the NHL. He has also led the NHL in penalty minutes each of the past two seasons.
At 6ft 2in and 210lb, Kane presents a more difficult physical confrontation than Robinson (5ft 9in, 180lb). Paul scored 6-foot-1, 189 pounds for the bout this weekend.
For what it’s worth, Kane wasn’t the only NHL player to challenge Paul after his victory on Saturday. Vegas Golden Knights goalie Robin Lehner tweeted Paul saying, “I would. [expletive] He followed that up by responding to Kane’s challenge:
Paul sent Robinson, who was making his boxing debut, into the second round of Saturday’s tilt. Paul delivered a trio of knockdowns before scoring a brutal second round knockout to go 2-0 with 2 knockouts in his boxing career.
Despite Kane’s challenge, it seems Paul has his eyes on Connor McGregor as his next opponent.
