POWERS – North Central provided an early challenge, but Mid Peninsula won in a 3-0 (25-23, 25-14, 25-10) triumph over the Jets here Tuesday night.

A block from Senior Mid Pen Landry Koski secured the opener of this Skyline Central Conference game.

The Jets, however, hung on with the Wolverines in the second set and were 15-12 after a Mid Pen pass error.

Following a strikeout, the Wolverines earned a 17-12 cushion on an ace serving junior Alexa Haring.

Koski then helped the Wolverines close that set with five of his 10 wins.

“The chemistry of our team is going very well,” Mid Pen coach Emily Kayser said. “Our girls in the back row gave our passer some great passes, and Landry played such a great game tonight.”

Mid Pen quickly took control in the third, taking a 10-1 lead behind a five-point serve led by sophomore Josie Hemminger.

Following a trade in spreads, the Wolverines extended their lead to 14-2 on a pair of typing errors and a passing error from the Jets, then continued to walk away.

“We came out strong in the first set” Jets coach Rick Mick said. “We challenged the girls to come out strong, to play hard and fast, and they did. Only our energy dropped in the third set. We received great support from our footballers, and the girls fed on it. “

Mid Pen led 24-19 in the first, then made a series of mistakes, allowing the Jets to climb to 24-23.

Koski, receiving significant defensive attention, added two blocks to go with his 10 kills.
