For the first time since 1961, the Florida State Seminoles lost to a non-major opponent, falling to Jacksonville State. In a mind-blowing miracle game Jacksonville State attempted a desperate game, quarterback Zerrick Cooper threw a pass to Damond Philjaw-Johnson, who entered the end zone for the touchdown, bringing the score to the final 20- 17.
Florida State coach Mike Norvell was clearly upset at the end of the game, but took full responsibility for the surprise loss that took the Seminoles to 0-2 this season. Talk after the game, he stated:
“I apologize to our fans, to our university, to all the Seminoles for the performance we had. I’m making it our own, but we go out there and work, fix the things that need to be fixed to play to the level that we are capable of playing. This team has talent, they have heart, they really believe in what we can accomplish, but we have to go and execute it. It can’t just be something we’re talking about right now. I have already lived through difficult times. Tonight is a difficult time for our university and our football team. We will have it corrected.
Plus, Seminoles quarterback McKenzie Milton didn’t mince words after the game. He added:
“It’s embarrassing,” said the Seminole gunslinger. “We have to own this. This is who we are. We lost to Jacksonville State. We’re 0-2 so all we can do is look ahead.
Right now, Florida State is due to regroup and rebound against Wake Forrest (2-0) next Saturday, September 18. It is clear that Mike Norvell will do everything in its power for fans to forget this game and try to make the most of its Seminoles.
