Military training plane crashes in Texas, injuring two pilots and damaging 3 homes

A military plane has crashed in a residential area of ​​Lake Worth, a neighborhood near Fort Worth, Texas. Lake Worth Police Chief JT Manoushagian said officials received the call about the downed plane on Sunday shortly before 11 a.m., CBS Dallas / Fort Worth reported.

“Initially, the units reported that a pilot had ejected and got stuck in some power lines,” Manoushagian said. “Another pilot had ejected and was found in the neighborhood.”

Lake Worth Fire Chief Ryan Arthur said two injured pilots were taken to hospital.

“The instructor pilot was reported in stable condition and the Navy student aviator was reported in serious condition – his injuries were not life threatening,” said a Navy statement on Sunday evening.

Arthur said three houses were damaged and the Red Cross was on hand to help residents affected by the crash. Three residents of these homes were treated and released at the scene with minor injuries.

“This incident could have been much worse knowing that this plane crashed in a residential area,” Arthur said.

Arthur said they were working with all agencies and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) to ensure the scene was dealt with and documented.

A witness told CBS DFW that his vehicle was damaged by what appeared to be an ejected pilot’s seat. He said one of the pilots appeared to be engulfed in flames before hitting power lines.

Manoushagian said Fort Worth Police and Fire Department, Tarrant County Constable’s Office and Tarrant County Emergency Management all assisted Lake Worth in response to the crash.

The Fort Worth Police Department released a statement later on Sunday, stating in part: “We are incredibly lucky that the plane crashed into the backyards of houses and not the residences themselves. We are also able to confirm two Fort Worth fires on leave Departmental firefighters witnessed the crash and responded immediately, being the first on the scene to assist injured pilots.
