Barring an epic meltdown over the next week and a half, the Giants will be one of the best teams in baseball by the July 29 trade deadline.
This level of success has surprised many around the game of baseball, and now the Giants find themselves able to add to their roster.
Area president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi and general manager Scott Harris could target the start of the pitches.
Kansas City Royals starting pitcher Danny Duffy has sparked interest from the Giants, San Francisco Chronicle’s Susan Slusser reported Wednesday, citing industry sources.
In 61 innings pitched this season, Duffy is 4-3 with a 2.51 ERA with 65 strikeouts and 22 walks.
All things considered, Duffy was solid. The trap ? He is currently on the injured list with flexor tendon strain and is not expected to return until early August.

If the Giants made a trade for Duffy, they’d give up assets for a pitcher who wouldn’t start for them right away. However, the injury could allow the Giants to acquire Duffy at a discount.
In addition to the Giants, Slusser reported that the San Diego Padres and Los Angeles Dodgers have also expressed interest in Duffy, which would make him a prime commodity in the NL West.
Duffy’s current injury designation might not completely deter the Giants, and if he’s able to come back and produce like he did before the injury, the Giants could get a lot of value from a veteran pitcher who has played his entire 11-year career with the Royals.
