Are you the half full or half empty glass type?

If you are a fan of Tampa Bay Rays, you will have to be both, as the club prepares to add AND lose a bat to the range.

The Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports Rays should place first baseman Ji man choi on the injured list.

Choi, their left-handed first baseman, left Sunday’s game with a recurrence of left hamstring strain that was previously a problem. He will have the chance to rest his leg now in the hopes of being able to resume play in about two weeks.

Choi, 30, is 0.250 this season with nine home runs in 64 games.

In a corresponding list move, Topkin reports that the Rays expect to activate the slugger Nelson cruz of COVID HE. According to Topkin, Cruz was taken off the lineup on Sunday and placed on the COVID list.

Cruz, who was vaccinated while with the Twins before the July 22 trade, has tested negative and is allowed to join the team.

Cruz, 41, reached .270 this season with 26 home runs. But he’s only hitting 0.198 with seven home runs in 24 games since arriving from the Minnesota twins.

As for the right-hander Chris Archer, who left early Sunday with hip pain after just two innings, Topkin reports that for now he “will remain on the active roster and take his next round in the rotation on Sunday.”

The Rays have a four-game lead over the New York Yankees in the American League East.
