INVOICING – The Billings Clinic convened a special press conference Thursday to announce that it had reached its maximum capacity.
Hospitals across the state are in a similar situation.
In terms of capacity, it has been reported that the Billings Clinic has reached the black, the highest ranking of its magnitude.
The situation is so serious that some patients are seen in hallways and conference rooms.
This is not a first for the Billings Clinic, but officials say they know the largest number of patients in recent history.
"It's not at all a crisis, we certainly manage our patients with exceptional and safe care, but it's a situation in which our traffic flows are affected, we need people to understand the times. 'wait longer,' said Robert Merchant, chief physician of the Billings Clinic.
The increase in the number of patients began at the end of January, partly because of the flu.
The influenza season is generally more intense in Montana in February and the number of patients shows it well.
Hospital staff encourages anyone with flu symptoms, illness or minor injury, to call the nurse HealthLine, visit Same day care or one of their ExpressCare Clinics, instead of going directly to the emergency room.
They assure that anyone who enters the emergency room will receive quality care, but the influx of visitors causes longer wait times.
