A measles outbreak is spreading in a county in Washington known for not choosing to vaccinate its children, and health officials have declared a public health emergency.

At least 18 other places where people might have been exposed to measles were identified Saturday in Oakland County, according to the County Health Division.
On Thursday, the division had published a list of more than 25 exhibition venues between March 14 and March 20. Additional sites postpone the deadline for exposure to March 21st.
At least five confirmed cases of the highly contagious disease and three other suspect cases were investigated. Health officials said that an infected Israeli traveler could have transmitted the virus during a visit to Oakland County from March 6 to 13.

"Unvaccinated people need to be vaccinated If you do not know about two measles vaccines, you do not know if you have been vaccinated or if you have ever had measles, contact your health care provider," said Leigh. Anne Stafford, Oakland County Health Officer, in a press release.
People are advised to monitor the symptoms 21 days after their potential exposure. Symptoms include:
- High fever (can reach over 104 degrees Fahrenheit)
- Cough
- Runny nose
- Red and watery eyes (conjunctivitis)
- Tiny white spots on the inner cheeks, gums and roof of the mouth (Koplik points) two to three days after the onset of symptoms
- A rash that is red, raised, stained; usually starts on the face, spreads to the trunk, arms and legs 3 to 5 days after the onset of symptoms
Anyone who visited the site at the times and dates indicated may receive the vaccination before Sunday.
The Oakland County Health Division Nursing Telephone Line will be open from 10 am to 2 pm Sunday at 800-848-5333 or by email at [email protected].
