More than 60 people decontaminated after chemical leak at Texas water park

More than 60 people were decontaminated on Saturday after being exposed to a chemical leak in the air at a water park in Texas, authorities said.

They said 26 people were treated in hospitals, including a 3-year-old who was “in serious condition” after the incident at the Six Flags Harbor Splashdown children’s pool in Spring, Texas.

Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office tweeted that he was investigating the source of the leak while monitoring air quality at the water park outside of Houston.

“Those affected suffer from minor skin irritation and / or inhalation,” the office said. He did not specify what the decontamination procedure involved.

The water park was closed for the rest of the day as a precaution, Six Flags spokeswoman Sandra Daniels said in a statement.

“A small number of guests in part of the park reported feeling unwell from respiratory irritation,” she said. “The safety of our guests and team members is always our top priority and the park was immediately cleaned up as we try to determine a cause.”

The park fully reopened on July 3 after a pandemic-related closure.
