A new CBS News / YouGov poll released on Sunday shed light on how Republican voters prefer their party candidates to approach the issue of COVID-19 vaccinations.

A healthy majority – 64% – want to vote for a GOP candidate who actively encourages people to get vaccinated. But an even larger number – 75 percent – would prefer this candidate to oppose vaccination mandates as well. In short, the poll suggests that the consensus view of Republican voters is that getting the vaccine is a smart decision, but ultimately an individual one.

Meanwhile, 90% of Democrats prefer candidates who encourage vaccinations, and pro-mandate candidates have received almost as much love, with 86% of voters expressing their preference for this view.

The CBS News / YouGov poll was conducted October 6-8 among 2,054 US adult residents. The margin of error is 2.6 percentage points. Read the full results on CBS News.
