Most unvaccinated COVID hospitalizations in Jefferson County

WATERTOWN, New York (WWNY) – It probably won’t shock you, but now we have statistical evidence locally to back up what doctors around the world have said.

If you are not vaccinated, you tend to get much sicker with COVID-19.

The Jefferson County Public Health Department on Monday released the first of what it promises to be an ongoing series of “monthly index” reports, with COVID statistics for the county.

These numbers are in addition to reports that Jefferson County publishes every weekday on the number of new infections and deaths from COVID.

The inaugural report shows that in September, around 70% of people discharged from hospital after contracting COVID were not vaccinated.

The actual figures were – 39 of the 55 people released were not vaccinated.

Medical experts have long said that vaccination lowers your likelihood of contracting COVID, and more importantly, dramatically reduces the damaging effects of COVID – even if you do get it, a vaccinated person tends not to be so sick, no. does not need to go to the hospital.

Seen from another perspective, nearly half of the people discharged from hospital after a COVID crisis were between 40 and 60 years old. People between 60 and 80 were the second group, people from birth to 40 years old the third group, and the smallest were people in the 80s and 90s.

More bad news: the county’s “level of community transmission” continues to be high.

Some good news: Of those eligible for the vaccine, just over 72% of people in Jefferson County are fully immunized and 85% have received at least one injection.
