Mt. Sinai Hospital canceled all immunization appointments from Friday January 15 to Tuesday January 19 – a sudden and surprising change for those who had. People who had appointments on those days were notified by text and phone Thursday afternoon. Mt. Sinai issued the following statement:
Unfortunately, due to sudden changes in vaccine supply, we were forced to cancel our existing public immunization appointments from Friday January 15th to Tuesday January 19th. We will notify our patients when more vaccine supplies become available and reopen immunization appointments for patients. For anyone with appointments scheduled after Tuesday, we’ll provide updates as soon as we know more. “
Lois Wolff, 76, was “horrified” when she heard the news around 5:30 p.m. Thursday. She and her husband both had dates at Mt. Sinai this Friday morning. “We were so relieved to have them,” Wolff said. “I can’t tell you how nervous we’ve been all these months. And Mt. The Sinai was very efficient! Yesterday, 24 hours a day, I received a text from them confirming my date.
“I also got a phone call to cancel,” Wolff continued, “a living human being. I said, “How could you do that?” She said, ‘Well, we’re out of them. We’ll call when we have more. I said, “What happens when you receive them? Should we go to the end of the list? She said, “No, no, we’ll get there.”
Mt. Sinai may not be the only hospital forced to cancel appointments. “A source at Montefiore Medical Center in the Bronx said the hospital canceled recent immunization appointments, but did not give staff a reason to do so,” wrote the Daily News. “An official said there were no supply issues.”
