FAYETTEVILLE, Arkansas (KNWA) – The Arkansas Department of Health has confirmed mumps cases on the campus of the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

According to Meg Mirivel, director of information for the Department of Health, there are three confirmed cases of mumps and a suspected case of mumps in recent weeks.

"Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to make sure they are up-to-date with their measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine and to seek care in the event symptoms, "said Mirivel.

The Ministry of Health is working closely with the university to alert students and staff who may have been in close contact with confirmed cases.

"These close contacts, as well as anyone benefiting from an MMR vaccine exemption on campus, are encouraged to seek immunization," said Mirivel.

MMR vaccines available at local Washington County Health Unit, many local doctors' offices and pharmacies, and University of Canada community at Pat Walker Health Center on campus, says Mirivel .
