MyTurn website lets San Diegans receive COVID vaccination alerts and schedule an appointment

Hoping to answer residents’ most urgent question about the COVID-19 vaccine – when can they get it – the state on Monday launched a pilot website where people can sign up to receive alerts on when they are eligible, then make an appointment.

The MyTurn system is working on a trial basis for residents of Los Angeles and San Diego counties, with Gov. Gavin Newsom saying the system will hopefully be available statewide by early February.

The website, at MyTurn.ca.gov, allows people to enter their basic information and find out if they are currently available to receive a vaccination and, if so, allow them to schedule a vaccine. People who are not yet eligible can provide age and occupation information and sign up to receive an email or SMS alert indicating when they can schedule a shot.

Newsom said the system will also allow vaccine providers to enter faster and more up-to-date information on the number of vaccines given, solving what he called a frustrating delay in reporting that often makes it seem like less vaccines have been administered.

“We believe this is the most comprehensive end-to-end system of its kind in the United States,” Newsom said. “But again, we recognize that it’s in its pilot phase.
