JOSEPH Kalimbwe, former president of the Council of Student Representatives of the University of Namibia (Unam), accused of fraud and forgery, has lost his legal representation today.
Nampa's court documents show that 26-year-old Kalimbwe was scheduled to make preliminary pleadings pursuant to section 119 of the 1977 Criminal Procedure Act, but could not do so in any way. Vanessa Stanley, magistrate of Windhoek, then postponed the case to 3 August 2018 to allow Kalimbwe to ask the Directorate of Legal Aid for a state-funded defense attorney to represent him in future court proceedings.
Kalimbwe is free on bail of N $ 1,000, which has been extended until his next court appearance.
The bond is subject to certain conditions, of which Kalimb we hand over his passport to the police investigating officer and that he should not ask for new travel documents until his case is finalized.
He should also report every Friday between 8:00 and 12:00 at the Windhoek Police Station. He was arrested on May 31, 2017, while attending a student meeting on the main campus of Unam in the capital.
He faces three charges of falsification, fraud and alteration.
Kalimbwe was dismissed in May 2017.
