Toyota adds 86 TRD Special Edition for 2019

Toyota launched last year the new GR performance sub-brand, but in the United States, the automaker is likely to stick with the more familiar TRD label. The addition of the 86 TRD Special Edition to the Toyota 86 range of 2019 reinforces this choice.

The car is touted as the "ultimate performance" version of the 86 and remains true to this trend with a nice combination of improvements. The list includes Sachs shock absorbers, Brembo brakes (12.8 inches at the front and 12.4 inches at the rear), 18-inch wheels and Michelin Pilot Sport tires 4.

The car is also equipped with a TRD body kit, a TRD exhaust and unique design details both inside and out. They include TRD decals, red seat belts and red contrast stitching, as well as an embroidered TRD logo on the dashboard. There are also red accents on the steering wheel and seats.

There is no extra power, with the car's 2-dish 4-liter, delivering a stock of 205 horsepower and 156 foot-pounds of torque. The drive is provided by the rear wheels via a limited slip differential and a six-speed manual or six-speed automatic. Note that with the automatic transmission, the maximum power is 200 hp and 151 lb-ft.

Of course, the power may still be low, but the combination of upgrades is a solid foundation for anyone considering adding power mods. We recommend adding a turbocharger to the top of your list.

The special edition TRD 86 will be on sale in August. The cars probably will not last as 1,418 copies, each being sold from a reasonable price of $ 32,420.
