The Mayor of Lüderitz – Hilaria Mukapuli and Deputy Mayor Brigitte Frederick both retained their positions in a mid-term election in the port city of the South Coast.

In fact, all the councilors of the local authorities of the town hall of Lüderitz have retained their functions. Magistrate Adelinu Hailonga announced the reappointment of Mukapuli and Fredrick during the swearing-in of council members in the city council chamber yesterday.

Mukapuli was elected mayor for the first time in 2015, succeeding Suzan Ndjaleka. Councilor Calvin Mwiya of Swapo was re-elected as Chair of the Executive Committee, while Shipola Shihepo and Johannes Abraham, both of Swapo, were re-elected members of the Executive Committee. Willem Gumede of Swapo and Elizabeth Wilskut of DTA were re-elected regular members of the board.

Mukapuli promised to work tirelessly with other counselors. She would ensure that the city's development program is carried out to the letter, she said.

She urged residents of Lüderitz to rally around the council's developments or achievements over the years, despite budget cuts that affected the implementation of some projects. She said that the 2018/2019 budget of the Lüderitz town hall for capital projects had been reduced from eight million to one million, which, according to Mukapuli, is very bad news. Mukapuli pointed out that it was therefore worth mentioning that they should immediately develop strategies by identifying capital projects to be prioritized, in order to implement them from the beginning of the new year. .

"Whatever the daily challenges, we must, in accordance with the Law on Local Authorities, continue to create a favorable environment for residents, visitors and potential investors so that we can collectively develop our city," said Mukapuli.
