A 13-year-old boy and an Informant editor were among six people who committed suicide this weekend, police said yesterday.

Ukarerera Kahiuoua was found hanged by his older brother on Sunday night in Katutura, Windhoek. He used a belt that he attached to the wardrobe handle to hang himself.

His brother alerted the neighbors when he discovered the body because their mother was not home at the time.

Gys van Vuuren (58), Informanté's director of information, was also found hanged at his home in Windhoek on Sunday morning. Van Vuuren was last seen Saturday morning when he went to visit his family.

According to the police report, the neighbors saw Van Vuuren's body through a window, then called Van Vuuren's son, who stayed elsewhere.

No criminal acts are suspected and no suicide note has been left behind.

Merja Iileka, editor of Informaté, told The Namibian newspaper yesterday that Van Vuuren was a principled man, a gentleman, a great teacher and that it touched the hearts of those who had worked with him. .

"I always try to understand the tragic and tragic death, while trying to comfort my team," she said, adding that he had left a void that could not be filled and that we would miss .

Another victim, 29-year-old Michael Akwenye, was found hanging on a tree by a passer-by on Saturday afternoon in Mix, just outside Windhoek. He did not leave any suicide note.

Meanwhile, an Angolan man, Francisco Tchivambo (30 years old) is hanging from a tree on Saturday morning at Bunya village in the west of Kavango. He also did not leave a suicide note.

In another incident, Jeremia Nanawe (36) from Omulunga village, in the Oshikoto area, hanged on Friday morning.

The deceased was found hanging on the roof of a traditional hut on a farm where he was working. He did not leave a suicide note.

In a separate incident, the body of a 66 year old Angolan was found Friday night in his cabin in Katutura.

Police said the deceased had spoken to his daughter the day before the day she found him hanged on the roof.

Benhard Nambinga was stabbed with an unknown object on Friday night in Otjiwarongo.

It is alleged that the deceased was with his friend in a bar when a fight broke out, which resulted in a stabbing. The suspect has fled the scene and police investigations are continuing.

A 24-year-old man was stabbed in the chest with an Okapi knife on Saturday night at Mile 20 village, Kavango West.

The victim has been admitted to the hospital and is in critical condition, although the motive for this attack is unknown. The suspect has been arrested and the police are still investigating the case.

On Sunday evening, the body of Hiskiel Ndahangwapo (52 years old) was found in the village of Omutsegonime, in the region of Oshikoto. It is alleged that the deceased was repairing his vehicle when the jack slipped and the car fell on him, killing him instantly.
