Shimbulu denies defying Swapo directive

OSHAKATI – Katrina Shimbulu, outgoing chair of the Oshakati City Council executive committee, which is at the center of the withdrawal of councilors from the city's local authorities, said the party could have chosen to send her alone without dissolving the city. Whole direction.

"Obviously I am the undesirable party within the leadership, but why should the rest of the leadership be dissolved, could not the party simply dismiss me?" Asked Shimbulu.

"I am ready to go if that is what is needed for peace to prevail in the party (Swapo) and for the leaders to continue harmoniously," Shimbulu added.

The Swapo party on Monday reminded all members of the Oshakati City Council for "defying a directive" aimed at instilling Onesmus Shilunga.

In place of Shilunga, according to the party's guidelines, the councilors installed Shimbulu.
Shilunga joined the council in August of this year following the death of Councilor Johannes Shilongo.
Shilunga, also a former mayor of the city, lost his mayoral portfolio in 2015 after being re-elected to the council.
In addition to Shilunga and Shimbulu, the elected councilors are the mayor of the city, Angelus Iyambo, and his deputy, Ndamonghenda Hamunyela.

The other advisers are Loise Shivolo, a member of the management committee, and Gabriel Kamwanka, who has become chairman of the management committee as ordinary advisor.
Shimbulu was quick to add that she was not challenging any party guidelines since she had just been appointed and seconded at the ceremony held earlier this month.

Shimbulu, however, asked why the party had quickly called the leaders back without consulting them to become familiar with the situation and to find the cause.

"As if that were not enough, is this the only directive ever challenged? There have been several others, the documents can prove it. Why now? Shimbulu asked further.

When contacted for comment, Shilunga stated that the directive was challenged only by a few advisers who were persuaded not to follow the instructions regarding the selection of candidates and the second candidate who was in office. which had been put in place by the party.
During the work, he added, some councilors who were not appointed to nominate candidates and second candidates eventually nominated and seconded candidates of their choice, which led to the current chaos.
