KL Rahul is a strong candidate for the first places in the first Indian test against Australia next week, but his talent for "finding new ways to break free from himself" did not fail with his assistant coach Sanjay Bangar.
Rahul is the only leading drummer to miss a major score in India's 358 goals on the second day of the four-day Sydney match. He was absent for three races while he was playing on a free workout and was caught in the middle of the first hour of play.
Five different Indian drummers, including Virat Kohli and Prithvi Shaw, scored half a century of what Bangar called a satisfactory output.
Bangar said that Rahul was no longer an inexperienced player and that he should assume more responsibilities.

He played 30 tests and he has a responsibility. We expect him to assume this responsibility and play his role for the team, "said the coach.
Bangar said the starting combination as well as box number six for the first test in Adelaide starting December 6 are still up for grabs.
He added that the second rounds would help decide the makeup of the composition, with Rahul, Murali Vijay, Rohit Sharma and Hanuma Vihari in the foreground for the opening and sixth places.
"I would say that there are still places to take. We are going to watch the second round closely and the film gives a hit to another drummer, especially Murali Vijay and the average drummers, and we'll see how they go.
"There are some places to go yet. We are looking at the opening niche as well as the number six slot. These are the positions we are still looking at, we have not decided yet, "he added.
Bangar said the posting of the second day was satisfactory, with most drummers getting good shots, although they are confronted by inexperienced Australian bowlers.

The conditions are different in Adelaide because it is not a rhythmic terrain as one would expect (New Zealand) or Perth. But we are here to make the most of everything we get.
