The murder of a brother of 20 Namibian dollars postponed

WINDHOEK – The Katutura Court of First Instance has postponed to January the next year the case of a man accused of killing his brother for the amount of 20 Namibian dollars.

Appearing in police custody, Immanuel Nepela, 28, was informed that his case would be sent to court in January 2019. The state informed the court that the police investigations were over and that the trial was over. verbal report to the Attorney General for his decision. .

The prosecution accuses Nepela of murder for what she considers to be an intentional and illegal killing of her older brother, Salatiel Nghiyolwa. Nghiyolwa died on June 19 after being stabbed with a knife in the informal neighborhood of Ehambo dhaNehale in Hakahana, Windhoek.

Nghiyolwa, who was a taxi driver, brought firewood the week before to Nepela, who sold grilled cuts of meat. The agreement concluded that Nepela would repay Nghiyolwa the debt of N $ 20 later in the day for firewood.

Later, the brothers had a heated debate and it is alleged that Nepela then pushed and controlled Nghiyolwa who dislocated his arm and strangled him, which made him lose consciousness for a time.

The next day, family members reportedly suggested separating the brothers and Nepela was asked to leave the communal hut. In addition, it was suggested that Nepela should move north, which he refused. Witnesses said that Nepela was seen later that night crying along the main road, holding a blood stained knife and saying that he had just killed his own brother. In October, Nepela denied his guilt when he pleaded not guilty in his preliminary plea to Magistrate Surita Savage. Nepela did not provide the court with an explanation of the plea, leaving it to the state to prove his case against him.

Nepela, currently in custody, could not be released on bail during his first appearance, the state being strongly opposed to this idea. The court postponed the case until 23 January 2019, sending Nepela into custody.
