The Cricket Committee of England and Wales (ECB) has announced a new change in its eligibility criteria to play in the men's and women's national teams.

The change results in a reduction in the number of years of residence, from 7 to 3 currently, so that players born outside of England can claim a national selection.

The current criteria are:

(a) British citizenship and,

(b) was born in England / Wales or three years of residence (a total of 210 days / year from April to March) and

c) Did not play as a local actor in international or national professional cricket in a full member country in the last three years

The change of eligibility will see the candidate Jofra Archer be available for selection in England since he has completed his three years of residency. According to previous eligibility criteria, Archer would not have figured before 2022.

Archer played in the Sussex Premier League in 2015 and made his category debut for Sussex the following year against Pakistan's touring team.
