Instagram has announced the launch of two new features, Auto Alternate Text and Custom Alternate Text, addressing visually impaired users on the platform.

The new tool will adopt AI Tech to provide users with an audio description of photos and create personalized descriptions.

The first introduced feature, Auto Alternate Text, will adopt object recognition technology to provide users with an audio description of photos. The second personalized alternative text, says Instagram, will offer users the opportunity to formulate a better adapted description of the photos when publishing content.

The new tools will be available for platform photos, on the user tracking wire, in the form of their own photos and on the exploration function.

"These are just the first steps towards creating a more accessible Instagram," said Instagram in a blog post.

However, the new feature imposes certain requirements on the user. It can only be exploited by a screen reading software, an assistive technology for people with learning disabilities such as visual or audible deficiencies.

"With over 285 million visually impaired people around the world, we know that many people could benefit from a more accessible Instagram," the company said.

The development of these new features follows the feature recently unveiled by the AI-based anti-harassment company in October. In November, she announced a tool to remove the inauthenticity of the platform.
