Mets chief executive Brodie Van Wagenen may be on the verge of a successful first.

Sources told Jon Paul Morosi and Anthony DiComo, of MLB.com, that even though a Mets-Mariners exchange is not imminent, it remains "a viable possibility" and that Seattle continues to negotiate with several clubs about Diaz. Joel Sherman of the New York Post added that the Mets do not believe that a Cano-Diaz trade is near, with no agreement so far on finances or club change.
A pair of recent round-robin selections from the first round have been discussed as part of the possible return of Cano and Diaz, said a source at MLB Network insider Ken Rosenthal. Jarred Kelenic, selected sixth overall in 2018, and right-hander Justin Dunn, chosen 19th in 2016 – New York both very well ranked by MLB Pipeline. Kelenic, left-handed, is the Mets' third hope (62 overall), and Dunn ranks 4th and 89th respectively.
