Cristiano Ronaldo's move from Real Madrid to Juventus marveled the world of football – but it could have caused an even greater shock wave.
Destined to leave Los Blancos after leading them to another victory in the European Cup, Manchester United was linked to the return of the Portuguese legend.
But it was not the Red Devils he had almost reached before Juve made a decisive decision.
The former head of AC Milan, Massimiliano Mirabelli, told the Spanish media that the Rossoneri had apparently reached an agreement – until a matter of ownership holds the plug-in .
"It was an operation that came to my mind and we spoke with Jorge Mendes (his agent)," Mirabelli told Sport.
"We knew that he could have problems with Real Madrid, we also talked about the contract and we did everything, but the Chinese owner blocked the deal as it was not sustainable.
"With the current owners, Cristiano Ronaldo would have been a Rossonero player."
Although many were surprised that he had left Real Madrid, they would have been speechless if he had joined Milan, less performing.
Ronaldo chose Juventus and, after a difficult start, is in great form for his new team – while Real Madrid has struggled largely without him.
Last month, Ronaldo responded to Isco claiming that Real Madrid was "crying" not to lose it, saying "it's not up to me to talk about the crisis of others".
The Spaniard was questioned about the current problems of Real Madrid and about the fact that he thinks they lack the Portuguese international.
He replied: "People have been talking about this all season, we can not talk about someone who is not here. [Gareth] Bale and [Dani] Carvajal when they are not with us. There are many ways to score goals. "
This prompted Ronaldo to respond, "It's all right, you can not cry," said Ronaldo. "I do not have to talk to other clubs.
"Everyone knows the story that I've lived in Real Madrid, it's not for me to talk about the crisis of others."
