The Peugeot Opel assembly plant in Walvis Bay, worth $ 190 million Nepalese, was officially inaugurated on Wednesday by President Hage Geingob.

At the opening ceremony, President Geingob said that the plant was increasing Namibia's development aspirations and indicated to the international community the country's intention to become one of the first destinations for foreign direct investment in Africa.

"This is an important event for the development of the Erongo region, especially for Walvis Bay," he said.

He also said that since independence, the government's goal was to create the conditions necessary for increased investment and development of a competitive industrial sector.

"In addition, in recent years, we have intensified our efforts to promote local value creation and strengthening upstream and downstream linkages within the Namibian economy," he said.
