Unacceptable delays in the treatment of breast cancer cases – The Post

If you are not lucky enough to have breast cancer, it is essential that you are treated as soon as possible. To this end, the Danish health service has set a deadline of 27 days for an operation.

However, figures from the Sundhedsdatastyrelsen health services data agency obtained by the Kræftens Bekæmpelse cancer prevention agency reveal that 36% of women in the last quarter of 2018 have not been dealt with on time.

The main sinner was the capital region, where the figure was 53%, DR Nyheder reports.

In a press release, Sophie Hæstorp Andersen, president of the capital region, called the figures "unacceptable", promising that the region will use its capacity to develop, both in terms of X-ray, outpatient services and operations.

Better in the province
On the positive side, things are better in other regions. In the South Denmark region, 78% were treated on time and in the regions of Zeeland, North Jutland and Central Jutland, the percentages were 65, 66 and 69, respectively.

The Sundhedsstyrelsen Health Authority has now asked the Capital Region to report on its actions in cancer-related surgeries, radiotherapy for lung cancer and cancer treatment in general.

The Mid-Jutland region is also honored because it has been questioned about the surgical treatment of ovarian cancer and lung cancer.

"We know that the numbers may fluctuate, but I'm certainly not satisfied with the fact that there is such a difference between regions," said Health Minister Ellen Trane Nørby.
