We have the habit, in the video game industry, to proclaim "the year of ___". The year 2013 was the year of Luigi. The year 2014 was marked by the look of Luigi's death. 2019 is the year of Gooigi. However, if Gooigi had not turned into an unassailable and decisive phenomenon, we might also be tempted to call it the Year of Auto Chess.

Auto Chess is a mode in which players spend gold to recruit heroes, which they can then strategically associate with other heroes and combine with copies of themselves to increase their power. At each turn, these heroes do their thing automatically. Players repeat this process until there is more left than one. After the Dota 2 mod stormed Steam earlier this year, Valve announced its own version, called Dota Underlords. And now, Riot's League of LegendsThe turn on the bridge builder turned Twitch into his own toy. Teamfight Tactics, as we know, has been at the head of Twitch for an hour after its release yesterday. At the time of this publication, it had nearly 200 000 simultaneous viewers, beating the first perennial Fortnite of about 60,000 people. This, in itself, is not totally surprising. There are however some points to note in this case: Teamfight Tactics peaks at much higher numbers than Dota 2of Auto Chess mod forever, positively denying the original Auto ChessRecord 65,000 simultaneous viewers in March. This makes sense, since the mod version of Auto Chess did not receive an official push from Valve in the same way Teamfight Tactics de Riot.

Teamfight Tactics is also meant to be more accessible than Auto Chess, a little like LoL is of dota. A little like Auto Chess and the typical Dota 2 crowd, Teamfight Tactics draws banners that do not normally succumb to the MOBA singing of thorny and particular sirens. However, unlike other Twitch 2019 successes, like Apex Legends, this one has not managed to catch many streamers of the highest absolute level of the platform (read: Fortnite-play) the ladder. The viewers are therefore a little more dispersed between large but not huge banners like Lirik, Reckful and DisguisedToast, some of which come from LoL and others not.

It is interesting to watch the streamers learn this game. DisguisedToast, for example, is forced to win 10 victories before ending its flow today, and although I do not approve of this from the point of view of it was rewarding to see him learn, discover new strategies, and, uh, break the game. Teamfight Tactics is not a reflex-intensive game, which means that viewers will gain strategic knowledge through flows that are actually applicable to their own games – contrary to what they watch, for example, playing Shroud Mountain peak (or literally any shooter, from anywhere).

While the game is a multitude of genres far from Mountain peak, the comparison is still useful to a certain extent. Mountain peak Electronic Arts has launched a major banner-based marketing campaign, with a "partnership" program on launch day that would have cost the publisher a million dollars just for Ninja. If Riot uses a similar tactic, she is not particularly transparent about them – nor was EA transparent about what her partner program implied at the time. regardless, Teamfight Tactics does not handle the absurd peaks of more than 400,000 spectators Mountain peak did at launch.

Teamfight Tactics yet has another noteworthy weapon in its case: the story of Riot. People have been waiting since League of Legends followed for ages, and although sources tell me for years that society is stuck in a state of paralysis of analysis that results in a cancellation of project after its cancellation, this is the most significant thing that Riot has been published for years. It's still part of LoLof course, but it's almost a separate game. This generated even more enthusiasm, interest and curiosity.

As always, there is a chance – even a good chance – that Teamfight Tactics will fall from Twitch's first place in a few days or weeks. It has gained momentum for the moment, but it is still in beta and has many asperities. Plus, I'm sure Nintendo will announce Gooigi Auto Chess before too long, and that, really, will be failure (something Auto Chess does not really have).
