The process was undertaken by exposing the atoms of a gold cone to a powerful electric field. The field excites the gold atoms, breaks their connections and causes the melting of the superficial layers. What happened was that the electric field made the atoms of gold lose their orderly structure and released almost all their connections.

On the basis of a set of theoretical calculations of the researchers, it is now possible to melt gold at room temperature based on a process called a small phase transition. This should be tested on a larger scale. Anyway, this knowledge could open new ways to the science of materials.
