Many experts have written off over the years, for reasons ranging from the emergence of cloud gaming to the dominance of mobile devices and the arrival of virtual reality, but the group refuses to die. In fact, some argue that the persistent appeal of the game console, now in its sixth decade, continues to demonstrate the weaknesses and limitations of alternative gaming platforms.

Chirag Upadhyay, Senior Analyst at Strategy Analytics, added, The console upgrade cycles continue and the three-way battle between Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo, which has raged for almost two decades, shows no sign of slowing down, with every platform owner discussing his plans to updates and new generations. In partnership with developers and motivated by the ever-growing expectations of consumers, we expect these platform owners to continue pushing the boundaries of the big screen gaming experience for many more years.
