Jofra Archer will be available for selection in England in March 2019 after the Cricket Council of England and Wales (ECB) announced changes to its eligibility criteria.
The governing body has decided to "bring the ECB regulations closer to those of the ICC", the duration of the eligible residence being reduced to three years.
Previous ECB policy stipulated that players were required to spend a period of seven years in order to qualify in the country of adoption if they had settled in England after their 18th birthday. Archer had previously confirmed that he would wait to be eligible for selection in England.
Archer, who also played in the Big Bash, Indian Premier League and Pakistan Super League leagues, was born in Barbados to an English father. He has a British passport for Windies Under 19 in October 2013 before settling in the UK in 2015.
His versatile Sussex compatriot – and perhaps soon a British colleague – Chris Jordan first alerted his country to the talented Archer after confronting him in his home country, insisting on the fact that "the sky is the limit" for his Barbadian compatriot.
England will face the West Indies early in the year in a three – test series, whose first match is a try at Kensington Oval in Archer 's hometown, Bridgetown. However, although Archer has used Twitter to express his desire to make his debut in front of his family in Barbados, it seems that the tour will come too soon for him.
It may or may not happen, but I would like to start in front of my family.

While the new regulation will come into effect on January 1, 2019, the requirement for a player to accumulate 210 days of residence over three years (from April to March) means that Archer will probably qualify for England at some point in March 2019, according to a statement issued by the Sussex County Cricket Club, for which Archer plays.
The exact date of Jofra's qualification will depend on the time he has spent abroad during the rest of the year 2018/19, but Archer will not fail to qualify before the Cricket World Cup of ICC 2019 in England, next summer.
