Channing Tatum says that he would very much like to go on stage for Magic Mike Live – but he is too shy to undress in front of younger dancers.
The Hollywood star, 38, launched her show at the Hippodrome Casino in Leicester Square last night. He designed and co-directed the immersive show, based on his hit movies Magic Mike and Magic Mike XXL.
Tatum, who is dating British singer Jessie J, said, "I love to dance and love these guys and play. But when you stand with your shirt next to you and their appearance, I do not work every day – I know everyone thinks I do it but I do not do it.
"If I take this form again, I'll be absolutely in the show for a weekend or something."
Magic Mike Live, which had already taken place in Las Vegas, has been extended until next October, after an unprecedented demand for tickets.
He said, "The West End, come on! In the first film, it's a joke that we're going to take it globally because it sounds so ridiculous that you can do a striptease on a global scale. Now that we're in London, it sounds like a hilarious joke that keeps people laughing. "
Tatum, who worked as a stripper, said he hoped the show would allow people to feel "liberated".
"I do not want anyone to come and be afraid not to control his own body," he said. "They should feel liberated and empowered by all the experience."
Addressing the potential criticisms of male goals, he said: "I am for an objectification of equal opportunities. It's been the same for so long, so I think it's perfect. But I am fully aware that some men are not comfortable with this, but this one is. I do not think these women should go out there and treat men on the street as they do in the series. "
