Opposition leader Felix Tshisekedi returned home in Kinshasa on Tuesday to begin his presidential campaign. He was greeted by tens of thousands of supporters as he began his campaign to replace President Joseph Kabila in the December elections, AP writes. He will face Joseph Kabila's favorite successor and former Minister of the Interior, Emmanuel Ramazani Shadary. Tsisekedi chose Vital Kamerhe, the third presidential candidate in the 2011 elections. In case of victory, he will be appointed vice-president. In all, 21 candidates, including Kabila critics, will vie for the position of prime minister.
He added that if he won the presidency, he would create a "truth and reconciliation commission" to hold Kabila accountable, while allowing him to stay in the country, to return to the rule of law, of
"gangrene" of corruption and restore peace in the east of the country ravaged by conflict. Kabila, 47, runs the country since the assassination of his father, President Laurent-Desire Kabila.
