Corning Announces Gorilla Glass 6 for Smartphones, Doubling Sustainability

Corning presented this week its new generation Gorilla Glass 6 protection lens for smartphones that promises double durability compared to its predecessor. The manufacturer says that the first devices that will use the protective glass will already enter the market in the coming months.

According to Corning, its Gorilla Glass 6 is an entirely new material "chemically reinforced at higher compression levels" and designed to support multiple drops throughout the life of an appliance. The substrate is designed for phones that use glass on more than 85% of the surface of their case. The Gorilla Glass 6 is therefore better suited to phones with screens displaying an aspect ratio of 18: 9 or 19: 9. Gorilla Glass 5.

According to a study by Toluna, cited by Corning, the people drop their phones seven times a year and more than 50% of these drops occur within one meter or less. The manufacturer claims that Gorilla Glass 6 has survived 15 drops of 1 meter on rough surfaces, which was twice the results demonstrated by Gorilla Glass 5.

Corning claims that its Gorilla Glass 6 has been evaluated by several customers and that these are expected to be used in commercial products in the coming months. Although Corning does not disclose the names of its customers, logical candidates to use Gorilla Glass 6 are companies that launch their high-tech products in the second half of the year. [ad_2]
