ONGWEDIVA – Ongwediva High School, whose construction has been facing several difficulties since 2014, will be completed and is expected to open in 2019.

The school, which was originally scheduled to be delivered in 2014, was affected by a series of delays, one of them being a contractor who dropped out of the site.

The construction of the school was halted at the beginning, after the contractor Uukumwe did not complete the school on time, but instead decided to go to school. give up the site.

Gerhard Ndafenongo, deputy director of the Oshana Region Education Directorate, assured that the school would open its doors to learning next January.

"We are already securing furniture for the school," Ndafenongo said.
Ndafenongo stated that there were only a few minor delays that were explained by the fact that the contractor had not been paid on time due to cross-cutting cuts while the government limited his unnecessary expenses.

Although the school was originally to be built for N $ 38 million, the bill increased by N $ 5 million. New Era understands that what remains to be done is to connect the school to the Ongwediva City Sewer System.

City council spokesman Jackson Muma said council was ready to connect the school to the garbage disposal system.

"We ask the entrepreneur to do certain things. Once this is respected, we will definitely connect the school, "said Muma.

Currently, more than 342 learners are attending classes in dilapidated classrooms where they are exposed to extreme weather conditions.
The prefabricated school of the ELCIN center in Ongwediva has no windows, no ceilings, no lockable doors and its floors are marked.

Electricity is accessible only in the main administrative block, with the rest of the school infrastructure remaining in a deplorable state.
During the rainy season, students learn in leaky classrooms.

In addition, some classes are interrupted because learners are moved to one side of the class because of leaks in some parts of the class.
The new school will house around 600 learners and 20 teachers.
