The important news of GitHub with a New Year's resolution delighted the developer community.
Just yesterday, GitHub announced two major updates, namely unlimited free private repositories and a unified Enterprise offering.

These changes mean:
- GitHub Free: Now includes unlimited private repositories. Developers can use GitHub for free for their private projects with up to three collaborators per repository. Public repositories are always free (of course, there is no change) and include unlimited collaborators.
- GitHub Enterprise: The new unified product for Enterprise Cloud (formerly GitHub Business Cloud) and Enterprise Server (formerly GitHub Enterprise). Organizations can now access a price per seat and with GitHub Connect, these products can be securely linked, providing a hybrid option for developers to work seamlessly in both environments.

I'd like to think that the increased competition from us (GitLab) has contributed to this change – as one Hacker News commentator said: "Thanks to GitLab for putting the market in competition, forcing GitHub to take this into account! "
