According to DAILY GUIDE, the president of the Association of Journalists of Ghana (GJA), Roland Affail Monney, plans to represent the association on the board of the National Media Commission (NMC).
He is reported to have removed the last member of the GJA from the NMC Board of Directors, Dr. Doris Yaa Dartey, who still has a three-year term to complete.
Mr. Monney took the necessary steps to allow him to sit on the Board of Directors of the NMC to earn a lucrative monthly salary.
DAILY GUIDE understands that since his retirement from the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), Mr. Monney has largely represented the Association on the board of directors of public institutions.
He would have already made himself available for a position on the Public Interest and Responsibility Board (PIAC), which is responsible for overseeing Ghana's oil funds.
Mr. Monney appears to be trying to remove Mr. Dartey, former Chairman of the Graphic Communications Group from the CNG.
The current mandate of the NMC Board of Directors is expected to expire at the end of November 2018 and only two members of the Board of Directors, including Nana Kwasi Gyan Apenteng, who chairs the board of directors, should retire because that he has served two terms.
Dr. Dartey, a veteran journalist and media trainer, was appointed for a term, but Affail Monney would use her power as president of the GJA to pull her out.
This runs counter to the fact that Dr. Dartey has been a diligent and selfless member of the GJA and the Ghana Writers Association (GWA) over the years.
At one point, she only funded GWA's activities for a year, as Nana Gyan Apenteng recently reported at the 7th annual conference of the Pan African Writers Association (PAWA).
It is understood that the leaders of the GJA have made the decision to appoint an executive member to the NMC Board of Directors because its members on the Board have not informed over the years the leaders of the Association .
But sources said no decision was made for Monney to come forward.
The GJA has also appointed former Secretary General Bright Blewu to the NMC Board of Directors, which means that he and Monney would replace Dartey and the outgoing NMC President.
Monney left Ghana for Namibia last weekend to attend a workshop on digital media, youth recruitment and youth outreach immediately after his name was submitted to the NMC.
He was due to return to the country this weekend, but would have interrupted his visit to Ghana on Thursday, November 29 to allow him to participate in the inauguration of new commissioners on Friday, November 30 at the Supreme Court building. .
The leaders of the GJA would be divided on the issue and it is unclear why Mr. Monney, who is completing his last term as President of the GJA, is doing his best to serve on the NMC Board of Directors.
Sources said his action could apparently be motivated by the desire to enjoy a juicy salary.
DAILY GUIDE however learned that his appointment was not accepted by all the leaders of the association.
